Tucker and Blackman Up For TMAs
TV casting show favourites, Helena Blackman and Rachel Tucker are among the nominees for Theatrical Management Association Theatre Awards (TMAs).
Tucker is perhaps best known for her appearance on BBC casting programme, I'd Do Anything, on which she was a finalist. She only narrowly missed winning the popular talent search after a controversial elimination in week nine. Shortly afterwards, Tucker went on to appear in the RSC adaptation of The Wizard of Oz in the role of 'Dorothy'. Tucker recently joined the cast of Queen jukebox musical, We Will Rock You
Blackman was a runner-up on the earlier BBC casting programme, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, aired in 2006. She came in second place, with Connie Fisher taking the role of 'Maria'. Blackman went on to appear in the Haymarket's production of The Wizard of Oz, enjoy a successful career as a cabaret performer and has recently appeared in Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific.
It is their most recent performances, Tucker's in The Wizard of Oz and Blackman's in South Pacific that have gained the pair their recent TMA nominations. Tucker is up against stiff competition from Brian Conley and Kathryn Evans in the 'Best Performance in a Musical' category. Blackman, nominated for 'Best Supporting Performance in a Musical' will compete with Martin Ball and Claire Sundin for an award.
Nominations for the TMAs are made by theatregoing members of the public who are recruited to become regional panellists in conjunction with critics from both national and local newspapers. Winners will be announced at the Hampstead Theatre on the 26th October 2008.
