Sister Act Coming To The Palladium
Well-loved American actress, television host and comedienne, Whoopi Goldberg is to produce the upcoming stage adaptation of 1992 hit film, Sister Act , in which she starred.
The show tells the family-friendly tale of 'Deloris Van Cartier', a disco diva/lounge singer who is placed in witness protection at a convent after witnessing a murder.
While in disguise as a nun, Deloris is quickly befriended by her new-found 'sisters' but fails to impress the convent's strict Mother Superior. Deloris then turns her attentions to the convent's choir, helping the nuns find their voices and themselves whilst reinvigorating the run down neighbourhood.
Eventually, her cover is blown and the gang come after Deloris but they are in for a big surprise when Deloris' new sisters show a loyalty and bravery they never expected.
Goldberg will work alongside Stage Entertainment on the show's production and will not be reprising her role of 'Deloris van Cartier'. The cast of the hotly anticipated production is yet to be confirmed.
The prolific actress seemed characteristically humble about her involvement with the production, saying; "If you are fortunate enough to be a part of something wonderful, I feel it's important to pass the baton. The best way for me to be a part of this new incarnation of Sister Act is to make sure everyone knows it's happening. The stage version of the show is fresh and new and I'm beyond thrilled to be part of it"
Sister Act will feature a score by Oscar-winner, Alen Menken, choreography by Anthony Van Laast and lighting by Natasha Katz. The show is scheduled to open at the London Palladium in June 2009 replacing the current production of The Sound of Music.
With a heavyweight production team, a glorious theatre and some enchanting source material, Sister Act is certain to be one of the smash hits of 2009. Tickets will be available soon from Show and Stay®.
