Monkees Musical Premiers in Plymouth
The latest in a long line of 'jukebox' musicals, Daydream Believer opens its UK tour at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on 26th August.
First came the monstrous success of musicals like Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You. Then came second generation shows like the fantastic Jersey Boys. Now the latest addition to the genre is Daydream Believer, a showcase of the music by the American pop band The Monkees.
Focussing on one of the most famous pop groups in the world, Daydream Believer will play at the Theatre Royal until 6th September before embarking on a national tour and will play at Belfast, Windsor, Stoke-on-Trent and Eastbourne with further dates to be announced.
The musical will feature numbers such as "Hey Hey, We're the Monkees", "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer" as well as a host of other songs by people such as Harry Nilsson, Neil Diamond and Carole King.
The Monkees - Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith - we're formed as a fictional pop group to appear on a TV show in 1966. As the success of the show took off though, the cast started touring as a real band and became one of the most successful pop outfits of the 1960s.
With a book by Peter Benedict and under the direction of touring musical pro David Taylor , Daydream Believer promises to be a big hit with audiences around the country. Whether or not it will transfer to the West End only time will tell, but here at Show and Stay® we'll do our best to keep you up to date with this exciting new musical.
