Jimmy Osmond To Play Teen Angel
1970s chart topper and I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here survivor, James 'Jimmy' Osmond, is taking to the West End stage for the first time early next year. Osmond will be joining the cast of Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre for a strictly limited season from 19th January to 28th February 2009.
Perhaps best known as the youngest member of The Osmonds, a band made up of his brothers and sisters, Osmond is no stranger to the spotlight. In 1972 Osmond's solo single Long Haired Lover From Liverpool shot to number one when he was just nine-years-old. This remarkable success made Osmond the youngest person to have a number one single in the UK chart, a record he still holds to this day.
Osmond will be taking on the role of Teen Angel when he joins the cast of Grease in the new year. He will be joined on stage by Danny Bayne, Nicola Brazil and Ray Quinn. Bayne and Quinn both began their careers on stage on reality TV, Quinn on X Factor and Bayne on Grease is the Word.
Osmond's West End debut comes as Grease prepares to celebrate its 15th anniversary on stage. Since it opened in London in 1993 Grease has grossed over £165 million in the UK alone and has been seen by more than 10 million people. Jimmy Osmond singing Beauty School Dropout should only serve to increase the show's impressive bank balance and convert even more people to the irresistible charm of Grease.
