Happy Birthday Phantom
Today is a very special day, Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber's best loved show, has turned 22.
The show opened at Her Majesty's Theatre in 1986 with Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford amongst its eager young cast. After positive reviews in London the show opened in Broadway to polarised reviews. Some hailed the show as a masterpiece, others viciously panned it.
Despite some early negative press, Phantom of the Opera has become a truly phenomenal production both on stage and on paper. Since opening, the show has grossed close to £2 billion and has delighted countless legions of fans across the globe.
