Buddy Closes Early
Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story is set to close earlier than expected. The massive tribute musical show will now finish on 7 February 2009.
The show first premiered at the Victoria Palace on 12 December 1989 before moving over to the Strand Theatre (now called the Novello Theatre) in 1995. After seven years of playing to sell out crowds, Buddy closed in March 2002. Since then, the show has toured nationally and internationally.
The Buddy Holly Story charts the star's rise to fame starting from his first deal with Decca Records up until the moment of his tragic and untimely death in 1959.
The musical stars Dean Elliott and Matthew Wycliffe as the protagonist and is directed by Rob Bettison and produced by Alan James. Bettison and James have previously collaborated on another West End musical, Jailhouse Rock.
On the topic of the West End closure, Janes stated: "We brought the touring production of Buddy into the West End and weve had a great year and a half there; but were now delighted to be going back out on the road once again to play to all our fans across the UK and Ireland."
Fans of the show can also see a regional tour of the production which coincides with the 50th anniversary of Holly's death on 3 February. The tour launched in Coventry on 20 September 2008 and is planned to finish in June 2009.
