From April 2008 to March 2009 the London Imperial War Museum will host For Your Eyes Only, the fascinating exhibition celebrating the centenary of Ian Fleming's birth. Displaying rare materials from the life and works of the celebrated James Bond author, this is the first major exhibition of its kind to be wholly dedicated to Fleming's career.

From April 2008 until March 2009, For Your Eyes Only will be showing at the Imperial War Museum London. This impressive display of the life and works of Ian Fleming delves into the facts and fiction behind the iconic character James Bond as well as Fleming's successful career as a journalist and travel writer.
For Your Eyes Only marks the centenary of Ian Fleming's birth, celebrating the world renowned author and the narratives that made him one of the most successful novelists of the twentieth century. The exhibition will put on display an array of materials from a map of the Mercury News Network, created by Fleming to show the bases for all Sunday Times foreign correspondents to the "blood stained" shirt worn by Daniel Craig in the recent Bond film Casino Royale.
Displays will examine Ian Fleming's past and the legacy he left behind including memorabilia from several Bond films. Annotated Bond manuscripts, prototypes of Rosa Klebb's flick knife shoes from the film From Russia with Love and Halle Berry's bikini used in Die Another Day will be amongst the rare materials on show.
For Your Eyes Only is a rare glimpse at the influences that inspired one of the greatest writers of his generation and the developments of his iconic character James Bond.
Interesting Facts
- Ian Fleming also wrote the hugely popular children's story Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
- Fleming married his wife in the same year as creating Casino Royale the first of the Bond novels and would joke that he wrote the story in an attempt to distract his mind from the forthcoming nuptials
- Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was based upon a bedtime story Fleming concocted for his son Casper.
- Ian Fleming studied at Eton
- A brand new Bond novel by accomplished British writer Sebastian Faulks, Devil May Care is to be released in May 2008 to help mark the centenary of Fleming's birth
