"Sandy...Tell me about it stud"
Please note the role of Sandy will be played by Siobhan Dillon on Friday 6th June
Sandy is a goody two-shoes from Australia who falls in love with cool cat Danny Zuko over the summer holiday. Their love affair ends when Sandy heads back to Australia with her parents - but a stroke of fate means that Sandy's parents move to America and she ends up at Rydell High, the same school as Danny. However, things aren't all that simple, as Danny has a reputation to keep up and can't be seen going out with prim and proper Sandy. Sandy seeks solace in her new found friends, the feisty Pink Ladies and starts dating a jock, but she just can't forget about Danny. Danny is similarly love struck and even tries becoming a jock himself, to please Sandy. After a series of twists and turns, it's Sandy that transforms herself, leaving behind her good girl persona as her and Danny are finally united.
The co-creators of Grease, Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, wanted to challenge the existing concept of musicals, and in doing so they created a new kind of classic. The first production took place in a former tram shed, but one year later Grease had risen to the Eden Theatre, just off Broadway. Seven Tony nominations later, the show moved to Broadway proper, where it enjoyed an amazing run. Grease then went on to tour the world, going from strength to strength. In 1979 Grease took over the record of the longest-running show in the history of Broadway, and the film version starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John became the highest grossing musical ever.
The raw energy, brilliant songs and vibrant dances of Grease, together with an engaging story, have entertained and delighted audiences over the years. It re-opened in London from 1993 to 1999 and toured throughout 1997, proving the show is as irresistible as ever. The new programme 'You're the one that I want' is bound to take the show to new heights of popularity and with tickets sure to sell as fast as greased lighting, Show and Stay is the place to book your theatre break to see this fantastic production.
Please note: Ray Quinn will not perform 19th – 25th August 2008 and 6th – 11th October 2008
