Billy Elliot Music
While the original 2000 film featured a soundtrack heaving with glam rock classics from T-Rex along with tracks from The Jam and The Clash, the West End Musical features a score by Elton John with lyrics by Lee Hall.
The music ranges from soulful ballads to anthems of solidarity in a variety of styles; disco, rock and classical. In response to the northern setting, Elton John has tried to reflect this in the shows music, embracing hymns, folk, brass bands and male choirs.
Billy Elliot Songs
Rerecorded and released as a single by Elton John to celebrate the shows success, Electricity reached number four on the U.K single charts in July 2005. The song, which starts with the line "I can't explain it, I haven't got the words," is used in the musical after Billy has auditioned for the dancing school and is asked to explain what it feel like when he dances.
Electricity is joined in the show by other songs including the emotive ballad Dear Billy(Mam's Letter) the witty We'd Go Dancing and others including Solidarity, Angry Dance, and He Could Be A Star.
